prom
Maybe you know that high schools in the U.S (where I’m from) hold dances for their students. The most important one is a formal dance called the “prom”.
The prom is open only to seniors and it is held shortly before graduation. At school dances, young people can learn some rules of adult life, such as dressing nicely and politeness.
The first time I wore a tuxedo was at my high school’s prom, but I didn’t try to learn any dance steps before the dance.
climate
Sometimes Japanese people ask me about the climate in the U.S., the country that I’m from.
There isn’t a rainy season in any of the states. Some places on the east coast of the U.S. have a climate that is similar to Tokyo’s.
Since the 1970s, states in the south and in the southwest of the U.S. have had big increases in their populations. Part of
the reason is that those places have milder winters than in the northern states.
state fair
I learned a lot about Japanese life by going to local festivals, so if you ever have a chance to go to a county fair or a state fair during a trip to the U.S., you should go.
Fairs usually take place for about a week in August and they are like full-size amusement parks, but the interesting parts are the contests, and exhibitions of animals, plants, crafts, and hobbies.
Salespeople selling products, such as “miracle”cleaners and beauty aids, will even entertain you.
